Introd Castle Was Home to Famous Pierre Sarriod d'Introd
Introd is a small village not too far from Aosta that I visited on my way back from Thumel near Rhemes-Notre-Dame after my attempt to socialize with the marmots. It has antique buildings worth seeing.
Some days ago I told you about my visit to the Val di Rhemes, which is a side valley near Introd. The nature in the area of my walk was very nice, I did maybe 4-5 km going up from the village of Thumel to Fos and then down. I was not faster, the trail wasn't complicated. (Here you can read my article about that walk “Polenta Valdostana - Natural Flour, Local Cheese and Cinnamon”.) After a fantastic lunch, I was still longing for discoveries and I could not fail to visit that castle.
The good notice for me was that there were large parking lots not far from the central part of the village, in Introd. Not always you can find places to leave the car.
You Can Visit SO Many Interesting Places Nearby!
This spring I was very passionate about the story of Catherine de Challand e Pierre Sarriod d'Introd because I visited some ruins of the castles of the property of Catherine where there were explanation tables mentioning her bad adventures. I also went to see the carnival of Verres dedicated to these two characters and I shouted with all the participants "Vive Introd et Madame de Challant!" So you can understand that I could not miss the possibility to add some new facts to it.
Owned by Counts Caracciolo di Brienza today, the castle is now entrusted to the Foundation Grand Paradis and can be visited when it is open ( https://www.grand-paradis.it/it/info).
There are Medieval Castles to Visit Near Verres, Valle D’Aosta
This castle had not only defensive purposes but was also a rural residence. For this reason, there were buildings for agricultural use around it, which miraculously survived intact up to the present day from their construction in the fifteenth century. Near the castle, there is a barn and near the road is the so-called Ola farmhouse, which was once a wing used as a shelter for cattle, a stable, and a barn. There is also the parish church with the cemetery where you can still see the ancient parts not hidden by the restorations.
The Santo-Sudario chapel where the Foundation Grand Paradis ticket office is located is one of the oldest chapels in the Aosta Valley and was built in the second half of the 5th century. The rectangular stone near the cross was used from antiquity until 2000 to lay the bar during the funeral. Everyone was waiting for the pastor to come down from the church to accompany the coffin on its last journey to the cemetery.
Do You Like To Stay in Resorts? Oh, yes, it’s a great idea.
At this point, I was already tired and the castle was also closed, so I went home. But next Friday I'm going to visit it and also other nearby castles that I haven't seen yet.
