One of the best-known castles in Piedmont is the Castle of Masino (in Caravino).

Discovering Italy's Hidden Treasures is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

The castle was built by the counts of Valperga who moved to this place after the famous resistance of the king of Italy Arduino on the Rocca di Sparone near Pont Canavese. The counts believed they were descendants of the famous king. And when you enter the halls of the castle you will see, on the right, a small private chapel where, it is said, there are still the remains of the unfortunate king.

I call him unfortunate also because after his death he had no peace: the so-called descendants moved them several times until they ended up in the chapel of the castle of Masino.

Very interesting is that the owners of the castle have managed to keep many pieces of furniture, so we can see how were the environments in the homes of the nobles that are described in the books make us dream from our childhood.

The castle of Masino is located in a picturesque place: not far from the great lake of Viverone, from the city of Ivrea, and from the Morainic Serra. There are many rivers in this area (that also attract gold seekers). That's why the view from the castle which is located on a hill is really beautiful.
